FAQs
Does sealing my tiles or stone make it maintenance free?
My stone is sealed but I still get mold, why?
Unfortunately no sealer will make your stone mould proof. The sealer will slow down the process of the mould growing; however, mould growth cannot be stopped. Once sealed correctly, the mould would essentially grow on top of the sealer making it much easier to clean. This also comes down to the environment that your stone is placed. For example, in a cold, wet environment you are more likely to see mould growth than in an area that dries quickly and has many hours of sun exposure.
Will sealing my stone stop grease and oil marks around my BBQ and kitchen?
The sealer, applied correctly, in these areas will allow you to have more time to clean these spills and drips. Sealers are made to be stain resistant, not stain proof. So in the case of neglect, the oil or grease will eventually soak in. However, on a well-sealed stone with the appropriate sealer you are going to have a much greater opportunity to remove the stain.
The internet says I can clean my grout with vinegar, is this safe for my tiles?
In the situation where your tiles are not acid sensitive, e.g. porcelain tiles, you can use acid based products to help clean your grout. If you have an acid sensitive stone, e.g. polished marble, you should not use acid as it can etch the surface creating a dull spot or in some cases a “white stain” where the acid has taken the colour out of the stone and the polish has been removed.
How often should I seal my stone?
This can all vary depending on the environment, maintenance and type of stone. In areas such as a shower recess, we recommend sealing approximately every 3 years. In a main living room with furniture and rugs etc, we recommend sealing approximately every 3-5 years. Other areas such as a formal dining area, walls which are not in wet areas or spaces around your home, which are generally not used often, you could get up to 7 years before requiring a re-seal.
Are your services environmentally friendly?
We take the best approach possible to ensure our cleaning and sealing services are environmentally friendly and take the necessary precautions required to ensure we look after the environment.
I have dull spots in my polished stone, can this be repaired?
Often caused by acid based products, it is common to see acid etching in natural stone. Rest assured, this can be repaired through a honing process that will refresh your stone.
What sealer should I use for my stone?
The majority of natural stones will need to be sealed. Each individual stone will benefit greatly from the best sealer for that specific stone. Typically, people discuss brands rather than types of sealer. In some cases, it would be more beneficially to use a water-based sealer, and in others a solvent-based sealer would be more suitable. Part of our service is to assess this for you and use or recommend the most appropriate sealer for your specific stone.
